July 5, 2011
Dear Sir,
I am writing on behalf of Honor Flight Arizona
to thank the wonderful community of Prescott for the support shown to us on this July 4th weekend. We are a 501©3 non-profit, nation-wide organization that flies WWII veterans to see their memorial in Washington, D.C. at no cost to them. This is done entirely by donations.
It is a challenging task as our veterans are 84-96 years old and most would never have this opportunity to be honored at their memorial as it was not completed until 2004, more than 60 years after the war. For many of our elderly vets, age has created barriers making them unable to travel without assistance.
This weekend, two wonderful events helped to support our mission. First, True Value Hardware allowed us to have a booth in front of their store where the community generously donated to our cause. A huge thanks goes to Walt Counts and Suzanne Springer of True Value.
As well, some of our Prescott area vets who have traveled with us on previous trips came out to help the cause. Ralph Osborne, Bud Rogers, Tom White, George Crockett and Phil Young, all incredible men, sat in the heat to drum up support for us so other vets might also have the opportunity to go to Washington, D.C. to be honored.
Simultaneously, Tender Hearts Senior Care who has partnered with us to raise funds for Honor Flight Arizona sponsored a float in the Prescott parade. Some of our vets were honored in this event. Len Covello, Kieth Prosch, Ed Sowman and Nova Frasher enjoyed spreading the word about us with Tender Hearts. A huge thanks to Rick and Debra Judy, Samara Rice and Linda Lambert of Tender Hearts for all they do for us.
If you are interested in contributing to our organization, or just learning more about us, please go to www.honorflightaz.org. You may click on the Tender Hearts link to contribute. Thank you, Prescott!!
