By 2020, Arizonans age 60+ will make up one-quarter of the state’s population. The 85+ population is the fastest growing age group in the state and will increase 141 percent by the year 2020. In fact, four Arizona counties currently have more than 20 percent of their population over age 60 (Gila, La Paz, Mohave, and Yavapai). More than 30 percent of adults age 60+ have one or more disabilities, including disabilities that affect
self care.
Under the Older American’s Act of 1965, each state is required to develop a State Plan on Aging. The development of the Arizona State Plan is the responsibility of the Arizona Department of Economic Security, Division of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS). Arizona’s plan is for a four year period beginning October 1, 2010 and concluding on September 30, 2014.
